COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE ISRAELI-ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEADERSHIP AND ACTIVISM FOCUSED ON SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC MOBILITY 

Leaders of the Future has a strong presence throughout the Israeli-Ethiopian community and is known as a credible organization with the community’s best interest at heart. Community involvement efforts are led by former member Knesset, Dr. Avraham Negusie, with the purpose of advancing the Israeli-Ethiopian community through activities that support the development of leadership and activism in order to promote positive change for the community, both socially and economically.

Community involvement efforts include educational events, leadership development, and community support through the establishment of leadership groups within municipalities that have a large Ethiopian community.

Development

Ongoing training is provided to help develop local community leadership. Topics include, but are not limited to:

​

  • Leadership skills such as identifying needs, communication skills, time management, conflict resolution, motivation and engagement, change management, delegation and empowerment, etc. 

  • Rights and duties of residents and citizens

  • Active involvement in the education system

  • Correct use of communication tools and social networks

  • Community representation in the Knesset and local council

Community
Support

Community support is provided through the establishment of leadership groups within municipalities that have a large Ethiopian community. Leadership groups are tasked with handling and providing support for issues relevant to the community such as: 

​

  • Positive Integration into the education system at the local level, such as supporting and educating parents, mediating between parents and schools, etc.

  • Urban planning and providing a response to the daily needs of the community, such as sourcing locations for community events, etc.

  • Bridging between the local community and other communities 

  • Organizing events to promote integration and shared community goals  

  • Reducing racism at the local level, such as cooperation with the police, community policing, etc. 

  • Recruiting participants for the youth programs such as 'Leaders of the Future'

Educational 
Events

Events are provided to help educate the local community. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Job Search and Career Advancement 

  • Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management 

  • Immigration and Absorption - maintaining contact with those staying in transit camps, speeding up immigration to support family reunification, mortgages and grants, accompanying immigrants in the processes of purchasing apartments, relocating to permanent residences, and other related activities

  • Education regarding racial injustices, racial discrimination, and racism 

  • Investing in primary and secondary education and the importance of obtaining a university-eligible matriculation. 

  • The promotion of higher education
