THE NEED FOR OUR PROGRAM ARISES FROM THE ALARMING SOCIOLOGICAL STATUS QUO OF THE ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY AND DISTURBING DOWNWARD TRENDS

THE ADJUSTMENT PROCESS OF BEING TRANSPLANTED FROM A PATRIARCHAL RURAL SHEPHERDING CULTURE TO A MODERN SOCIETY HAS BEEN DIFFICULT AND DESTRUCTIVE TO THE FAMILY STRUCTURE
In many cases, families have been unable to adjust. Consequently, a large proportion of our parents work as unskilled and contracted laborers or live on welfare. This reality has diminished their authority and the ability to provide guidance and support to their children which in turn has created a younger generation prone to delinquency in growing numbers.

to a modern society
EVEN TODAY, MORE THAN 30 YEARS AFTER OPERATION MOSES THE COMMUNITY STILL LAGS BEHIND THE GENERAL POPULATION IN EVERY PARAMETER FROM EDUCATION TO EMPLOYMENT
The statistics are cause for concern, in a comparison of achievement gaps, Israeli-Ethiopian children swiftly fall behind their peers, and by the time they reach the 8th grade the gap is nearly insurmountable, few attain high quality matriculation which enables them to attend university, and a high percentage of Israeli-Ethiopians soldiers end up spending time in jail.
MAJOR CHALLENGES FACING THE
ISRAELI-ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY
LACK OF EDUCATION & NETWORKS
Israeli-Ethiopian parents find themselves lacking the education and networks necessary in finding better jobs. This forces parents to work longer hours which keeps them away from home and children left alone to wander the streets
LOW SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS
The majority of the Ethiopian community in Israel live in neighborhoods of low socioeconomic status consisting of inadequate education systems, delinquency, and crime
LACK OF ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE
Children who are already struggling have difficulty improving because they lack the academic support from their parents that more privileged children receive at home
DISCRIMINATION & RACISM
Issues of discrimination, racism and police brutality are constantly coming up and impacting Israeli-Ethiopian children, the way the see themselves and their future
